William Mason Marching Band Places Second at Super Regionals

This weekend, the William Mason Marching Band traveled to Atlanta, Georgia for the Bands Of America Super Regional, placing in second.
This competition encompasses southeastern states going to gauge of their skills in a professional setting. The marching band has prepared laboriously for this and this has been the pay off, according to Katie Hermann, a senior in the marching band. A lot of time has been put into their performance, however, this was not something that they expected to occur.

8th Grade Tours

October 6, 2014- The step from middle school to high school is a big step for anyone.
At MHS the SIBS have created a way to smooth that transition for the middle school students. The SIBS have created tours to bring the 8th graders around MHS to see where they will be going to school for the next four years.

MHS Canned Food Drive

Occuring during the week of Octorber 20th-24th. SIBS will be collecting cans and donations when they visit your second bell daily throughout the week.
October 13, 2014- It is time again in Mason High School for the canned food drive.
The Mason Food Pantry asks the Mason Community to come together to donate canned food to feed the less fortunate members of our neighborhood. According to Jeff Schlaeger, the administrators of the canned food drive, this one week brings our district together.

MHS Red Ribbon Week

October 3, 2014 - Red Ribbon Week has been a tradition at Mason as long as anyone can remember. This year the Student Peace Council has taken over the responsibilities of this time honored tradition.
Sophomore Chinmay Bakshi is the student who brought the Student Peace Council idea to Spanish. The idea for this club came to him when he realized the stature of the drug and alcohol problem in schools all over Ohio.
They have ideas planned out for the week but don’t want to share and ruin the surprise.

Homecoming Parade

September 25, 2014- People say that you bleed green and white while at Mason. But the tradition lives on at Mason High School. In honor of that tradition living on senior, Jenelle Lee has decided to create a homecoming parade in honor of the alumni coming back to Mason.
“It’s a giant welcome to the alumni,” Lee said. “People who graduated Mason in years past came back to Mason and the parade it just a way to kick off homecoming weekend.”

Hispanic Heritage Festival 2014

The Spanish National Honors Society is going to have spirit week September 22nd- September 26th.  It is a fun way of celebrating Hispanic Heritage month.  Every day there will be a different theme:
·         Monday: Soccer Jersey Day
·         Tuesday: Sombrero Day
·         Wednesday: Dora and Diego Day
·         Thursday: Speak in Spanish Day
·         Friday: Red and Yellow Day

Starting the Speech and Debate Season

September 11, 2014—The Speech and Debate season is underway. Starting on September 15th, new members will gain information for the season. As for returning members, September 22nd begins their season.
Melissa Donahue, one of the team’s advisors, is eager to begin.
“I feel like we are off to a great start,” Donahue said. “We have a wonderful group of officer and event leaders that are so organized. They know what they need to do from the start of the season.”
