01/20/10 -- Lady Comets Repeat as Classic Champions

The Mason Girl's Swimming team won another Southwest Ohio Coaches Classic this past weekend.  The Comets ran away with the title besting powerhouse programs Centerville (2nd) and Ursuline Academy (3rd).  . Danielle Jansen led the way winning the 100 Free, 500 Free, 100 Breaststroke, and finishing second in the 50 Free. There were many tremendous individual Comet performances that led to the 1st place finish.

Of note the 400 Freestyle Relay is a story that will go down in the books as one of the most exciting races in Mason history.  Leading off for the Comets was Emily Faas.  At the start of the race Emily slips, dragging and scrapping her knee and foot on the starting block and falls to the water.  She then takes off two body lengths behind everyone, but with a stellar effort pulls off a split of 57.07, chasing the leaders Ursuline and Springboro.  Morgan Emter makes some headway at a sizzling 54.65 and Cari Caprio runs down the leaders and blazes her way to a 53.72. Then the beast is unleashed and a white hot Danielle Jansen conquers and skates in with a 51.01 and rallies to a victory!  The girls emerged victors with a time of 3:36.45!!

The Girls diving team also proved a force with 3 top finishers.  Maddie Sewell gracefully dove her way to 7th place with a score of 363.80.  Taylor Edwards with style earns a 6th place with a score of 364.80 and Magen Halwagen 3rd place with a breathtaking score of 398.80.

The men had their fair share of swaggering individual performances and finished 15th overall as a team at the event. Sever Trifan, soared above the rest in the 50 Breaststroke, not only winning the event with a time of 2.31, but also breaking the Classic record.  Not stopping there Sever had another outstanding performance in the 100 Breast earning a spot in the top 16 with a 14th place finish and a time of 1:03.57.

The 200 Medley Relay was the guys relay of the meet placing in the top 8 championship heat with a time of 1:43.2. The result was the guys swimming their best times of the night.  The guys diving team had some celebrating to do as well with Sean Sargent showing passion and poise.  He finished #1 delivering a strong performance with a score of 404.50.

Congratulations to all the girls and guys who worked so hard to do so well at the Southwest Classic Swimming and Diving meet.
