Keith Carter

Class 1966
Inducted 1966

Keith was a 4 time baseball mvp, 4 time time batting average champ for Mason, 4 year starter as fb for Mason, and was fb on Masons first championship team in 1966. Keith went on to get an athletic scholarship to Miami University of Ohio after graduating in 1966.

 

Walter Dwire

For 20 years Walter “bubs” Dwire was a member of the high school faculty teaching business and coaching. He was a key figure in expanding Mason’s athletic program. Became the first athletic director in 1961. Very important role in starting the Comets football team.

Lettered in basketball, track, volleyball and softball. She was All-FAVC two years in basketball and track, and an All-FAVC senior in volleyball.

Played basketball and baseball for three years. Led Comets to regular-season Warren County Championship.

Jay Koepfle

A 3-sport athlete, he was a 2-time first team All-FAVC performer in football. He was named All-FAVC twice as a catcher. He played basketball two years.

A 4-sport Athlete, all FAVC for 2 years in football. Also in wrestling, track, and basketball. He earned MVP honors playing football at Baldwin-Wallace College.

Kendra Meyer

A 4 year starter in basketball, volleyball and track. She earned 1666 career points and 1007 rebounds in basketball, second highest in Mason history. Named Southwest Ohio Player of the Year. In volleyball, named All-FAVC first team and Player of the Year for two years. In track, state qualifier in discus. Also an Academic All-American.

Dave Smith

Played football, basketball and baseball. He held the record for most receiving touchdowns at 8, which stood for 22years. In his senior year he hit 4 home runs in one game.

Dave Campbell

A two year track and cross country participant. He went to state in 1976 as a cross-country runner, where he finished 9th place. He was honored as an All League, All District, and All State runner.

Cindy Hess

A 4 year varsity basketball, 3 year volleyball, 2 year track, and 1 year softball letter winner. She was All-Area Basketball and volleyball for three years. She was the FAVC MVP in volleyball in 1983.

Vicki Hooper

She lettered 4 years in volleyball and basketball, 3 years in track, and 1 year in softball. She was a member of 4 FAVC Volleyball Championship teams. She received the South Western Ohio Volleyball Coaches Award. She was first team FAVC in track in 1983.

Missy Jeffers

She lettered 4 years in track and 3 years in cross-country. Leading scorer on the track team for 2 years. She was a first team All FAVC selection for four years in track. She was a two time state qualifier for cross country.

C.W. Bercaw

Inducted 2002

He participated in basketball, track & field, and baseball. In 1925 he won the discus throw at the Warren County Meet with a toss of 138 feet. He held the record for several years.

Keith Carter

Baseball 4 time MVB, 4 time batting average champ, 4 year starter for first baseman. He also played first base on Mason's first championship team in 1966, played basketball 3 years, and had an athletic scholarship to Miami of Ohio.

Dennis Wilson

Class 1976

He participated in football, wrestling, and baseball all 4 years at Mason. He was an All FAVC honoree for two years in baseball and football. He later moved on to play baseball at Ohio University . As a wrestler Dennis won the GAVC championship his senior year.

Greg Richards

Class 1977
Inducted 2002

He was all area in football, basketball, and baseball. He held Mason’s record for quarterback rating for 20 years. In baseball he was All FAVC for 2 years and in his senior season he was the FAVC player of the year. He finished his career at Mason with a record of 28-6 and a .94 ERA. He played college baseball at Austin Peay, and later played minor league baseball for the Montreal Expos.

Jim Bradley

He was All FAVC as a running back in football, and as a catcher in baseball. As a senior he scored 102 points, and rushed for 1356 yards with 7.1 yards per carry. He received a baseball scholarship to Indiana University.

Percy Coleman

Class 1984

To our knowledge, Percy Coleman is the only Mason graduate to appear in a major league baseball game. He graduated from Mason High School in 1894 along with 9 others. At 20 years old, he was one of the youngest players in the Major Leagues when he broke into the league with the St. Louis Browns on July 2, 1897. That season he appeared in 12 games and had a 1 and 2 record. The next year his only major league appearance was with the Cincinnati Reds on October 10, 1898. It was the third to last game and the team, despite winning 92 games, would finish in third place 11 games behind the Boston Beaneaters. Pitching a complete game against the Louisville Colonels, then a major league team, he gave up three runs but still lost 3 to 6. Coleman never appeared in another major league game. He died in Van Nuys, California in 1948.

Rick Chappell

Rick Chappell graduated in 1968 after 3 years as a member of the varsity cross country team and four years on the varsity track team. As a member of the cross country team, Rick placed 2nd in the District Tournament, 6th in the Regional Tournament, and qualified for the State Tournament. In track, Rick took home the FAVC title in the two-mile event both his junior and senior seasons, qualified for the District and Regional Tournaments. Additionally, Rick was a member of the National Honor Society and Mason High School Band.

Jim Huggard

Jim Huggard is a 1975 graduate where he was as well rounded in academics and athletics as the baseballs he threw and the basketballs he shot. Jim was a 4 year participant in baseball, basketball, and cross country. Jim spent 3 years on the varsity baseball team where he was named Co-Captain and Team MVP in 1975 and All-league as a senior. In basketball, Jim was a 2 year varsity participant where he was named Co-Captain in 1975 as well as taking home American Legion Award honors. Finally, Jim was a 3 year varsity cross country participant and a 3 year Varsity Club Member.

Mike Simon

When Mike Simon left Mason High School with the graduating class of 1978, he did so as one of the most accomplished basketball players ever to come through Mason. Mike was a 2 year varsity player where scored 850 points while leading the Comets to a 41-9 two year record and back to back FAVC Championship Titles. Additionally, Mike was named 1st team All District and Western Star All Area as a junior, and 3rd Team All State, and 1st Team All District, All Southwest Ohio, and All FAVC as a senior while averaging 24 points per game.

Tom Chance

Tom Chance was a three sport athlete at Mason where he excelled in football, baseball, and wrestling. Tom was a member of the varsity baseball team for 4 years, football for 3 years, and wrestling for 2 years. During his junior and senior years Tom was named All Conference in both football and baseball, All Area in football as a senior, FAVC Football Player of the Year as a senior, and qualified for the District Wrestling Tournament. After high school, Tom continued on to Otterbein College where he was a 4 year starter.

Sheri Farquer (Hanna)

Sheri Farquer (Hanna) is a member of the 1985 graduating class of Mason High School. While at Mason High School, Sheri excelled as a three sport athlete in volleyball, basketball, and track and Field. Sheri was a 4 year varsity letter winner in volleyball, basketball, and track as well as being named 1st team All Area in basketball and 1st team All FAVC in volleyball and basketball. Additionally, Sheri led the Comets to a District Title in Volleyball during her junior campaign.

Darcy Poulos (Snell)

Darcy Poulos (Snell) truly placed Mason Tennis on the map! Darcy was a 4 year varsity tennis player while at Mason where she compiled a career record of 107 win and 11 losses including an FAVC Championship during her freshman year. Darcy was named Western Star Player of the year 4 years in a row, Western Star 1st Team All Area, and FAVC Tennis Player of the Year as a senior. Darcy went on to continue her career at Ball State University.

Mike Pugh

Mike Pugh was a four sport athlete during his tenure at Mason High School where he participated in football (4 years), Track (3 years), Baseball (2 years), and basketball (1 year). Mike went on to become a Board Member for the Countryside YMCA, a member of Mason City Council from 1978-1982, and was the founder of the Mason High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Over the years, Mike has helped many organizations in starting companies with publicity and advertising with no compensation asked in return. Mike is truly a positive representative of the people of Mason, Ohio.
