Former Mason standout and University of Illinois Junior Angela Bizzarri has won the 5,000m title at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Friday at John McDonnell Field, becoming the first Illinois women's track and field national champion since Perdita Felicien won the 100m hurdles in 2003. Mason sophomore running standout Zach Wills has repeated as the 3200 meter State Champion at this past weekends OHSAA Track and Field Championships held in Columbus, Ohio. Wills won the event in a blazing time of 9:02.90, less than 2 seconds off the official state record. As a freshman, Zach won the same event last year in a time 9:15.34.

The Mason Boys and Girls Track teams both secured Southwest Ohio District Track and Field Championships last weekend. The event was hosted at Mason’s Atrium Stadium. Mason High School has won the coveted GMC All Sports Trophy for the second straight year. The Comets totaled 202.5 points over second place Lakota West’s 184.5 points. Last year both schools were also 1-2 in the race during Mason’s rookie season in the league.

Mason High School 2006 graduate Angela Bizzarri continues to shine on the collegiate level at the University of Illinois. Bizzarri, a six-time All-American, won her first career Big Ten title by taking the 5,000 meter crown. The Mason Girl’s Track team competed at the prestigious Edwin C. Moses Dayton Relays last Saturday and claimed a first place finish over a talented field of 17 other teams.
