Ceramics I

(.5 Credit)
Ceramics is a studio course that offers the student basic understanding of clay as an art form. Emphasis will be placed in developing basic ceramic skills as a member of self-expression. Students will work with various types of clay and glazes, and will learn to execute a variety of methods of hand building and decorating. Students will be involved in written and oral assignments, exams, tests, and the process of production of utilitarian and fine art forms made from clay.

Ceramics II

(.5 Credit)
Ceramics II is an advanced ceramics class with higher expectations. This class should not be taken without assuming the responsibility of a serious artist and ceramist. The course will expand on the skills previously learned in Ceramics I. The course will explore varieties of hand building, decorating, and glazing. The potter’s wheel will be heavily emphasized. Students will be involved in written and oral assignments, exams, tests, and the process of production of utilitarian and fine art forms made from clay.
Prerequisites: Ceramics I

Ceramics III

(.5 Credit)
This course is for students who have a desire to pursue ceramics as an art form. Students will be working more independently, and will actively write, research, and create artwork. Students taking this class should know a basic mastery of the clay media, and are highly encouraged to push themselves to explore new possibilities in clay.
Prerequisites: Grade: 11, 12, Ceramics II with a grade “C” of better and Teacher recommendation

Ceramics – Wheel Throwing

(.5 Credit)
This course is for students who have already shown competent skill or effort on the wheel in Ceramics II or Ceramics III, and wish to pursue the use of the wheel to a greater extent in the development of their artwork. Students will be working primarily on the wheel
Prerequisites: Grade 11, 12, Ceramics II
