MHS art teacher to receive Mt. St. Joe Honor
04/17/2008- Audrey Gorman, an alumna of the college of Mt. St. Joseph and art teacher and Mason High School, will be given the highest honor bestowed upon graduates of their Department of Art & Design. On Friday May 2, 2008, Gorman will receive the John Nartker Medal during a special ceremony. The John Nartker Medal is named for a former professor at Mt. St. Joseph. It is given annually to alumni who contributed to the community through the arts.

MHS Artists Create Winning Works
03/18/2008- Mason High School visual art students put on an outstanding performance in this year's Regional Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. Thirty-three students won a grand total of 55 awards in this year's competition. This more than doubles last year's winnings of 23 awards. Seven students won the highest honors avaliable by having portfolios of eight of their best artworks chosen as Gold Key winners: Caitlyn Crites, Sarah Fukatsu, Paul Giovis, Omair Hussain, Jenny Shen, Andrew Tremblay, and Courtney Wittikend. MHS Students Chosen for Cincy Youth Wind Ensemble
10/30/2007- Four Mason High School Band Students under the direction of Robert Bass auditioned and were accepted into the Cincinnati Youth Wind Ensemble (CYWE) at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory for the 2007-2008 season. They are Emily Delman, Ben Wagner, Laura Beth Cook, and Michelle Lee. The highly competitive auditions selected candidates from 24 schools represented by Cincinnati area. The Cincinnati Youth Wind Ensemble is the premiere wind ensemble of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music Preparatory Department under the direction of conductor Matt Westgate. CYWE is designed to be a musically enriching experience for talented high school musicians, and is open to students in grades nine through twelve who play flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, string bass, and percussion. The ensemble performs band and wind ensemble literature of the highest quality, rehearses in a fast-paced, stimulating environment, and takes advantage of the state-of-the-art equipment and facilities provided by the College-Conservatory of Music. CYWE was founded with the idea of giving motivated area musicians an extra opportunity to perform in a musically inspiring environment. The CYWE Rehearsals are held each Sunday evening University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Regular season concert dates for the 2007-2008 season are Mondays December 3, March 17, and June 9. In addition, CYWE has been invited to perform at a collaboration concert with the nationally-renowned CCM Wind Symphony on May 2 as part of their Spotlight on Excellence series, and at the Ohio Music Educator Association Conference in with Jr. CYWE in February of 2008.

MMS Visual Arts Educator to be Recognized by Statewide Organization
10/04/2007- Mason Middle School Visual Arts teacher Rita Shriver-Schehr will receive a 15 year Circa Recognition Award and be inducted into the Ohio Art Education Association Circa Honor Society at the annual OAEA Conference in Dayton, Ohio on November 1. The OAEA Circa Society awards honors to OAEA educators who have shown long term service and professional dedication to OAEA and the field of visual art education in Ohio.

Art College Day
09/25/2007- On Thursday, September 27, several art colleges will be visiting to speak with Mason High School students. Students may sign up to see presentations from the following groups and colleges on Naviance. Art College Day Schedule: 7:30-8:15 - College of Mt. Mason Arts Festival 2007
09/21/2007- The Mason Area Arts Council presents the 2007 Mason Arts Festival. Sunday, September 23 from 10Am to 5PM. Located on the Mason Municipal Center lawn, this show features much local art talent. The work will include artwork from all levels of Mason City Schools, including work from our talented High School students. This year, the work featured in the festival will be juried for prizes.

Mt. St. Joseph Annual Art Show
09/17/2007- Teachers are permitted to submit up to two works each for this year's Mt. St. Joseph Annual Art Show. The work will be due late October, see your art teacher for details.
