2013 Fall Break Changes to Comply with Count Week

August 23, 2013

During its July 30 meeting, the Mason School Board approved changingFall Break the 2013 Fall Break to Monday, October 14.
Fall Break was scheduled for Friday, October 11 - which created a conflict with Count Week. During Count Week, the State of Ohio uses a formula to determine the funding distributed to school districts based on the number of children attending school during the first full week of October and a week in February. Districts are not allowed to schedule time off during Count Week.
"This was a misstep on our part, and we apologize for inconveniencing families with the change. We know that some families may have already made plans to leave town on October 11, and we will be flexible as we work with folks," said Tracey Carson, Public Information Officer.
Reporting an Absence
If your child will be absent, please contact the school office, and send in a note when your child returns to school. Vacations should be pre-approved by your school principal. If a child has an unexcused absence during Count Week, the Mason City School District will not receive revenue for him or her.
